Gołąbki [ɡɔˈwɔmpki] is the Polish name of a dish popular in cuisines of Central Europe, made from boiled cabbage leaves wrapped around a filling of minced pork or beef, chopped onions, and rice or barley. The stuffed cabbage, (holubtsi, halupki) is a Ukrainian favorite dish served on special occasions or gatherings. This is my Grandmother's recipe and it. Instructions to make Halupki's:
  1. Boil cabbage until soft. Save water.
  2. Chop onions and sauté in butter until translucent.
  3. Mix together ground beef, uncooked rice, onions, egg, and salt & pepper.
  4. Place ground beef mixture on a cabbage leaf and roll up.
  5. Place Halupki seam side down in crock pot and/or casserole dish. Cover with vinegar and/or tomato sauce and add some cabbage water.
